GREEN CROSS TRAININGS

GCAT credential holders must become members of Green Cross through application and payment of annual dues to receive and to maintain certification for which they qualify. Previous training from other organizations will be evaluated for credit and acceptance on an individual basis. All certification levels require application to the Green Cross Academy for Traumatology and maintaining membership to maintain certification(s).

Certified Traumatologist:

This certification is earned by those who complete the FT certification and a program of study covering four other areas of expertise: assessment and diagnosis, treatment competency, contextual applications, and self-care, in addition to clinical experience. This level is designed to increase trauma expertise or enhance trauma specialty knowledge and skills. The Certified Traumatologist credential is federally recognized by the Veterans Administration (VA), Federal Emergency Management Administration (FEMA), Voluntary Organizations Active in Disaster (VOAD), and other response agencies.

Current Requirements:

  • Disaster Trauma Workshop/Training or Field Trauma Workshop/Training

  • FEMA on-line course: IS-100

  • FEMA on-line course IS-700

  • FEMA on-line course IS-394

  • Completion of the Compassion Stress Management and Compassion Fatigue Therapist workshops/trainings

The “Clinical” designation has additional requirements:

  • Treating Traumatized Families Workshop

  • Child and Adolescent Trauma Workshop

  • Assessment and Treatment of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder

  • Treating Anxiety and Phobia (EMDR Level 1)

  • 100 hours direct field work in trauma (one to one, group, or family therapy)

  • Completion of all requirements for Compassion Fatigue Educator, Compassion Fatigue Therapist, and Field Traumatologist Certifications

Master Traumatologist:

This certification is earned by those who complete the CT/CCT certification and a program of study covering grief and loss, mental health and psychological first aid, sexual trauma, domestic violence, complex trauma, and training and experience in evidence-based trauma treatment modality, such as EMDR, etc. Green Cross CT/CCT and MT/MCT are the Academy’s subject matter experts, supervisors, educators, and trainers. This level is designed to provide mastery in traumatology and the related knowledge and skills. 

Current Requirements:

  • Completion of all requirements for Compassion Fatigue Educator, Compassion Fatigue Therapist, Field Traumatologist, and Certified Traumatologist Certifications

  • Grief and Loss Workshop

  • Psychological First Aid Workshop

  • Understanding and Treating Sexual Trauma Workshop

  • Domestic Violence Workshop

  • EMDR Level 2 (Or comparable technique such as Traumatic Incident Reduction or Thought Field Therapy)

  • Complex Trauma Workshop (HEART Model)

  • Cross Training with other Certifications such as CISM (Critical Incident Stress Management), Red Cross, or ATSS (Assoc. of Traumatic Stress Specialists)

  • A minimum of 7 years full-time (15 years part-time) direct experience in the trauma field either through employment or volunteer organizations

Courses

Compassion Fatigue Educator

This is for those that complete a CFE course and are primarily interested in teaching and guiding colleagues about self care, developing and managing a self care plan, and effective compassion fatigue stress management. This level is designed to provide basic or general trauma awareness.

 

Current Requirement:

  • Compassion Stress Management Workshop/Training

Compassion Fatigue Therapist:

Compassion Fatigue Therapist: This certification is earned by those who complete the CFE certification and a program of study covering the assessment and treatment of secondary traumatic stress reactions (PTSD), the MASTERS transformative process, and the competencies for designing a CF prevention program in a given work context. This level is designed to provide trauma competence.

 

Current Requirement:

  • Compassion Fatigue Therapist Workshop/Training

Field Traumatologist:

This certification is earned by those who complete the FT course of training or equivalent training and experiences associated with crisis intervention, working with Incident Command structures, and other knowledge to prepare them to work with survivors of disasters. This level is designed to provide trauma proficiency.

  • FEMA on-line course: IS-100

  • FEMA on-line course IS-700

  • FEMA on-line course IS-394

  • Completion of the Compassion Stress Management and Compassion Fatigue Therapist workshops
